What’s the difference between a midwife and a doula?
Midwives are practitioners and experts of normal physiological birth. We practice under the midwifery model of care. We provide holistic care to childbearing persons and give prenatal care, help you birth your baby as well as postpartum care for you and your infant. Doulas provide emotional support, advocacy and education to you during pregnancy and birth and postpartum.
Am I a qualified home birth candidate?
You will make for a great home birth candidate if:
You are a low risk client that desires uninterrupted birth with little to no interventions. If You are willing to consider the recommendations that will improve your health and increase your chances of a healthy outcome for you and your baby.
You understand through no fault of your own that some births will require a hospital transfer. Low risk means that you have no major health issues that require a higher level of care.
What if there is an emergency?
Because we care for you throughout your pregnancy, we are able to anticipate potential emergencies. Home birth is safe because we are skilled in handling common complications and are able to give life saving care if necessary. We are able to determine when a transfer to the hospital is appropriate.
Who provides the birth certificate?
Midwives who do home birth provide birth certificates. You will be provided with a verification of pregnancy, an affidavit to be signed by you and the midwife, and a worksheet that will be completed by you and the midwife to be turned in to the office of vital statistics in the county where you reside.
